I’m looking to upgrade my 2-step stepstool.
I’ve been using a folding rubbermaid plastic one and I really like how it is a bit more like a staircase than a ladder and has a large platform on top.
But it’s simply not rugged enough for daily use.
What are you using and why do you like/not like it?
No I paid maybe $45. Not sure which one you are talking about. I also have a little giant Big Step. It’s a 3 step unit with a bar to lean on. I paid I think $125 for that one. I use it out side cuz its more stable. But it’s bulkier and heavier. I love them both.
I do mostly WFP work outside. I have used the Flip n Lite on occasion on the outside if the ground is level. If I have outside low ladder work I use a Little Giant 13 or 17 foot in most cases.
i believe they are far more dangerous than ladders because you cannot hold onto a stepstool. Used outside on dirt they will tip easy and your legs will go from under you everytime . The fact that your eyes are looking upwards means you will not see/feel a stepstool as it starts to tip
Upturned plastic beer crates are popular here to stand on ,for a good reason . as they have a rectangular base ,are only 9 " high and a big flat top they dont tip over when placed on dirt or uneven ground . i have a regular beer crate in each of my vans . if the crate isnt high enough to reach a pole must be used
I bought mine in 1986 for $88 on sale. As I am just short of 5’6", I needed it for everything while remodeling. I have used it for a jack stand and I would again. Scrubbed the s**t out of it and now use it interior only for windows.

We still use them, but I couldn’t agree more. When we’re training people, we ask them what they think is the most dangerous ladder. Most people point to the 28 foot or something. We point to the 2,4,6 foot steps. I have fallen more than once from a ladder, but only once from a ladder that was not a step.
I have stopped using step stools outside. I split apart a red tipped 16’ ladder, so I have a 8 foot non extension ladder section that is super light and quicker to setup than a step ladder. I set it just over the top of the first floor windows that are out of reach. It’s almost like a sectional.
I agree that stepstools are more potentially more dangerous than other ladders; I fell off one in December and broke my leg.
I’m really starting to lean toward something like this: P372 2’ Type IA Aluminum Platform Ladder
