What was your first wfp system?

So as a FNG ( what we call new guys in the fire service. I’m sure you can imagine what the f is for) I am saving every penny for a wfp system. I am just wondering what you all started with and what you recommend.

I would like to keep it as inexpensive as possible but also something that is going to last awhile.

I am absolutely clueless about this and any help would be appreciated

Not a pro by any means, but you first need to find out what your TDS is. That will dicate what type of purifier you need. We have a low TDS so we can get by with a DI tank, which is significantly less than other RO/DI systems.

Save for good poles, crap poles are just that.

Hydrotube and aquaclean poles

A big, heavy-assed Tucker… hooked directly to a spigot.

Tucker pole and a DI tank.

Haven’t bought my first on yet, but I do have an Unger telephone. Gotta get the WFP adapter for it and some type of DI tank.

Tucker pole and DI Tank

A 4 stage electric cart and an Excel pole. I spent 5k, I think ill build my next one

Holy Smokes Phil! That telephone must be a rare collectors item. Lol

I would call Alex at WCR.

1992 Tucker, in July, it will be 20 years old! I have a stationary R/O system that can make about 200 gallons/day, that I store in tanks.

Thats what I’m here for.

Hey bwillielv, I’d be happy to go over some basics for you.

As stated above, most important thing for you to do is get an understanding of what your average TDS is. TDS is basically a mineral count in your tap water, this dictates what kind of system will work best for you. By best I mean most economical. If your TDS is low, somewhere 100pp or lower a simple DI tank will work great for you. If your TDS is over 100ppm, you may want to consider one of the less expensive multi stage systems like the EZ Pure or the HydroTube.

I know Tucker poles are cheap but they are pretty antiquated, you can get yourself a Brodex pole which is also aluminum but has a better clamping system and a small diameter. You can get a 36’ Brodex for $450, that will reach second and third floor windows without issue.

Give me a call and I’d be happy to go over some systems with you.

hey bwillielv,

My first WFP; 28ft exel, a 75 gal/per/day ro/di system, from an aquarium supply store, and a used 15 gal spot sprayer with a 1gpm pump and a 12 volt battery.

So I agree, tds is key, mine averages 225, so I use a stationary ro/di system, and fill a 100 gal container. I'm happy with my set up, but I wished I had saved my money and bought a better pole, for now I'm saving for a 25ft aquaclean, anyway my whole system now only cost me 1grand.

My first set up 8 - 10 years ago was a tucker and tucker tank… Fromt there I graduated into making my own DIY poles…

Now we use carbon fiber poles and Pure water units.

WCR offers so much in regards to poles and pure water systems, I am sure they can help you whatever your budget is.

Have you called Alex yet? What are you waiting for!?

Waiting by the phone;)

Lol thanks for all the information guys.

I work in about 5 to 6 different counties around here. I would imagine the TDS would be different in all these counties?

I guess I should just get a TDS meter and see what I’m working with first.

I’ve never owned one personally, but the first pole I used and got acquainted with was the tucker with 2 di tanks.

I also have extensive experience with the ipc eagle 5 stage electric, coupled with a 65’ (or 60’, don’t remember) Carbon Tec, not the telescopic, the other one.

Damn auto correct spelling on my iphone… Oh well. It’s cool cuz you can makes calls on it while you are washing windows… lol.

I’ve been using the 36’ Brodex for around a month now, and it’s been working out great. It gets kinda whippy at full extension- but hey, that’s just good exercise

Whatever you do, don’t try to build your own DI tank from PVC… At least not until I’ve posted the full tutorial on that (it’s harder than it looks:eek:)
