A big franchise operation is marketing their “unique wash-wax formula” which they claim will repel dirt and keep the windows clean longer.
Anyone familiar with what they may be adding to their cleaning solution to “wax” the windows?

It seems to me that they’re probably putting a dash of boolsheet in their bucket
Haven’t heard of that, though I had one residential that the windows were a real pain to get clean. Finally I asked if they had ever used anything on the windows beside regular window cleaner and they replied “oh yeah we normal spray it down with liquid Turbo wax”… I wasn’t amused. I don’t even know what product they were talking about.
Why do you want to know?
Because when I’m competing with them for business, it helps to understand whether “window wax” is legitimate or a crock.
My suspicion is that they are taking advantage of people who do not realize that window waxing is a lot of hot air.
Hey, who doesn’t want their windows washed and waxed? lol
In my first service area there was a company that promised something similar. It turns out they were putting Rain X in their solution. I ended up cleaning a few houses they had done 6 months earlier and the windows were pretty trashed in that amount of time.
… and an oil change while they’re at it!
Bingo
If I were you I’d get it from the horses mouth directly. Call them and ask. It might work. Just say that you want to look up the product to read about it because you want to make sure that they don’t ruin your windows.
Randy, I’m assuming you’re talking about Window Gang?
My guess is that they are just putting Turtle Wax Zip Wax, Car Wash and Wax. It is what we use to wash our trucks. It won’t hurt the windows, but won’t help them stay clean longer either.
Have you tested it?
I lost a bid a couple of years ago because I wasn’t able to deliver the ‘wash n wax’ solution. At the time I had never heard of it until I found Window Gang on the internet.
I would assume that wax in your solution would leave a film worse than dish soap and therefore attract dirt faster.
Yeppers. How’d you know? :>)
Yea I did. Since it didn’t harm the glass on the trucks, I thought it might keep the windows clean longer. It didn’t.
No surprise there…at least for window cleaners.
However, when you think about it, it’s quite ingenious- in a skeezy kinda con-man way. First you sell the customer on the idea of a wash AND wax (they think they’re getting premium service) then you clean their windows and afterwards apply a near invisible substance that secretly attracts dirt quicker than normal so they will call you back sooner to wash & wax their windows again. Nice;)
Window gang claims to have a wax additive in their cleaning solution so the window is washed and waxed in the same step
Glass manufacturers recommend cleaning the glass but never waxing it. Floor manufacturers recommend washing and waxing or finishing when necessary.
Ask your customers, if there was a need to wax your windows, wouldn’t it be part of the maintenance instructions for your windows similar to the instructions you have for your floors?
I hired a guy that worked for Window Gang for about two weeks. A few observations:
